Well, it's finally happened. I am now a customer at Starbucks. Until yesterday, that was not the case. I don't like coffee, and I've never had a cup. They don't offer fountain sodas, so they had nothing to offer me—until yesterday, when I saw snowflakes on my windshield and the car heater was taking way too long to warm up. And I thought, "Hot chocolate. I need hot chocolate." There was a Starbucks next to the office supply store I had to visit. And they apparently have a new drink they call
Signature Hot Chocolate. Oh my. I'm hooked. So now I'm Starbucked. My dilemma is threefold:
1. It costs $4 for this drink.
2. There are 470 calories in a Grande (made with 2% milk and NO whipped cream)
3. Now that I'm a customer, does that mean I can't make fun of them?
Postscript: Blogger has added all kinds of new options for me with my Mac. But it won't let me paste text in the box. Keep working on it, guys.

Are they the only game in town? If not, get your hot chocolate from the local deli or whatnot. If I can help it, I never give my dollars to chain stores. Nothing against Starbucks, I just try and support the mom and pop shops.
Better still, whip up your own and keep it in a thermos in your car. You'll control the sugar and calorie level and the cost will be miniscule.
1. Figure out how to make it yourself. Homemade is always cheaper.
2. Hmm...what else adds so many calories? Probably the sugar. If you make it yourself, try using stevia for part of the sugar.
3. Absolutely not. Now you have inside information to increase the damage you can do. ;)
Come to think of it, I have never been to a Starbucks. Four bucks for a hot chocolate! No wonder it is called StarBUCKS, you could buy a gallon of gas for the same price!
I say live on the edge, what's four bucks occasionally?! It's a treat! Don't suck the fun out of it!
Too bad y'all don't have a Tim Horton's. Then you'd know what real coffee was all about. :)
If I may boost -
I have a capital recipe for Hot Chocolate on my blog
Couldn't you buy like 25 packets of hot cocoa mix for that? Including the marshmallows? I need to stay away from that. What I haven't tasted won't addict me ; )
Go ahead and make fun of them. They still deserve it! :)
