Opie, age 20, was taken to the vet this morning and put to sleep. He had stopped eating a few days ago, and it was time.
He was such a sweet cat, always calm and cheerful, glad to see just about anyone. He lived his entire life in this house, a companion to his mother who also lived to age 20. We will really miss him.

So sorry but he certainly had a long life and I am sure a happy one.
I'm so very sorry. Although the decision was out of your hands, I know how hard it is to follow through on when it is time. Twenty years is a long time. I know he will be missed.
That's a longtime companion. Hugs.
Okay, so I've developed giant tears in my eyes and they have overflowed and are running down my cheeks. Such a difficult day.....giant hugs.
As we say in the church: Requies-cat in pace. ;)
Lots of good memories.
Lived to 20 for a cat is triumphant. I'm so very sorry for your loss Betty. Take care of yourself.
i'm so very sorry for your loss. even after twenty years, i am sure it is tough to say goodbye.
as i have said many times, i will be a mess when jeep passes on. these critters...they certainly find a way into our hearts and lives.
big alohas to you.
Birdie, so sorry you lost your kitty, 20 years is pretty good however, he certainly must have been well taken care of. Pets are part of the family. As a side note, I don't want to say it out loud as I could seem shallow to some of our neighbours, but as much as I miss my Dad, one of the hardest things was to send all the animals away when he was dying, I really miss our dog.
so sorry for your loss. No pet is ever *only* a cat - they hold big bits of our hearts in their furry paws.
I'm so sorry to hear about Opie, he seemed like such a regal little fellow. Take comfort in the fact that he had a wonderful life filled with love thanks to you. May his memory always bring you joy.
Dearest Birdie, I'm so sorry for your loss.
It’s been said that Mohammed was so fond of his cat that he once cut off his sleeve rather than disturb his sleeping friend. There are few animals more comfortable in their own skin than a cat. Noble, gorgeous creatures, affectionate but never fawning. At twenty long years, Opie surely lived out all nine, and maybe an extra life or two, in comfort and style in the Strelitzia family. Now he passes into family folklore. Missed, but not forgotten.
My heart hurts for you. I am so very sorry for your loss. Joy in the memories. Hugs from afar.
It never gets easier. Farewell, Opie. You will be remembered.
I'm so sorry, Dear Birdie. Losing a loved one always sucks. Always.
